The Third Day (Sunburst)

This piece is about transcendence. It constitutes a diagram of a guitar in its most basic form, a metal wire stretched across a wooden box, this is presented with a sound element, a brief passage of particularly fluid guitar music. This model of the guitar as a “wooden box with a wire stretched over it” is one that I keep in mind when testing a new instrument. I play a single note, if I hear the sound of a wire stretched over a wooden box then I know that this is an ordinary guitar. On the other hand, if I hear a pure musical note then I know that this is a special guitar, one that can transcend its physical nature in a way that makes it apparently “transparent”.

“And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again.”    Matt. 17:23
